2 Weeks!!!!!!!!!!!

I officially have 2 weeks until I begin my Disney Internship :)

All the nay-sayers out there say that this isnt exactly a "real" internship, but I don't care what they think. This will be a GREAT experience for all who will be participating and people who have done it before seem to have really enjoyed their time at Disney. I frequent the DISboards website for the College Board, which has an ample amount of info about the College Program from multiple sources (current and former CPs in all roles). I get more and more excited everyday.

I believe I have everything necessary but I am going to double-check by the weekend. I may have a roomie (Yay!!!) so that's one thing I won't have to worry about when I get there. She seems really cool and so nice!

I am counting the days until I make my way to the Magic Kingdom and start Living, Learning, and Earning :)

27 Days!!!!!!!

I officially have 27 days until I check-in at Vista Way for my Disney College Program season. I am all smiles at this point (while typing lol) but can't really grasp the idea that I will be away from the only life I've known for 5 months. I feel like a highschool kid going away for college for the first time. No parents, no family or friends; just me, strangers, and Disney!

I think THE hardest part of me going away to Disney for the rest of the year will be that I will be away from my dad and my fiance'. My dad knows I need to branch out into the world (I do to....that's why I'm going! lol) and this seemed like the best way to get him (and myself I guess) prepped for the day when I really move out and become a productive citizen of the world. I will miss him and his crazy antics terribly but I am definitely going to call him everyday and send him postcards every so often. I am also going to miss my dear hubby (hubby to me, fiance' to the non-believers!). I have spent almost every day being with/talking to this man ever since the summer of 2007. Our lives are thoroughly intertwined but he is encouraging me to go this season without him (he couldn't do the program with me for various reasons....hopeful he still wants to one day so I can go seasonal (or do another CP) and join him ;) I fought going for as long as I could ( I seriously told him that I wasn't gonna do it; he gave me one of those parental looks lmao) and now the big day is upon us.

I still have more things to get but once I have everything, I am going to do what everyone else on the CP has/will do on the forums and groups and blogs....post a list of what they are bringing.

I cry when I get really happy and overcome with emotion. I wonder if I will cry come Aug 10-11??

LOL We'll see........

Have a magical day kiddies ;)

Shopping For Disney

Seems that I've been MIA for a while.....I'm Sorrraaay!

LOL!! Hello everyone. Sorry for the hiatus; life got hectic around the time of my last post (and nothing real big or interesting related to Disney happened that was worh posting). I was preparing to graduate while studying my butt off for finals, etc. I am happy to report that I graduated on May 6th 2010 with a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Psychology :)

I've been actively pursing this hunt for a summer job (and possibly something I can have lined up for after my return in January) and that is about it. I have no car or other very reliable transportation to get out and do much. So...I should have a super toned bod ready to be shown off at the beaches in Florida lol.

More recently I have been able to get out and about, and this will ultimately include me going out to shop for Disney. I definitely need more shorts/capris and tops for those non and after work days, as well as a few more pieces for my Non-Costumed work days (business attire). I definitely need new luggage b/c what I have now will not get enough of my stuff down there; I need more room. At least that's what my dad says. I think he's right though; I hate packing as it is let alone using small bags to do it. I definitely need some casual summer shoes....these flip-flops I have now offer NO support whatsoever and will not work for 5+ more months of consecutive casualness SMH. I also need/want a netbook to keep in touch with my fam and friends via the net and upload pics for them to enjoy while I'm away. I know it can be hard when people you love move away (permanently and temporarily), so Facebook, Skype and emails will let my loved ones see me everyday even though I'm hundreds of miles away.

Time to spend some dinero; Hasta luego!

The Princess and The Frog

To keep things interesting on here until I start my program, I have decided to discuss some of my favorite Disney films of all time. Stay tuned, it will be fun :) lol

Anywho, I recently had the pleasure of viewing Disney's latest and in my opinion GREATEST 2D animated film : The Princess and the Frog

I was unfortunately unable to see this amazing creation while it was in theaters. Trust me, I had every intention on seeing it right from the day I heard it was due to come out. Like many within the African American community, I was excited for Disney to finally have a Princess that looked like us. It honestly never bothered me or changed my views about Disney because there wasn't a Black princess but shoot, they were actually doing it and I was glad!! lol

Now don't think that I am saying that this movie is the best because Tiana is African American and so am I. No.....I'm not that type to do that. I give praise when it's due and criticism when it needs to exist!

The Princess and the Frog centers on the story of Tiana, a young lady from Louisiana who dreams of one day owning and running her own restaurant: Tiana's Place. Tiana becomes closer than ever to having her dream come true when her wealthy best friend's father pays her a hefty fee to cater their masquerade in honor of Prince Naveen's arrival into town. Multiple problems ensue after Tiana is outbid for her restaurant space and when shady voodoo priest named Dr. Facillier decides to work his evil ways and change the haughty prince into a frog. Tiana, saddened by her turn of bad luck runs into yet another hit of bad luck when she kisses the frog prince, who assures her that he is a real prince who is under a spell and will help her get her restaurant back. Well......things don't quite go as planned. The kiss turns Tiana into a frog too!

From there, the two frogs get lost in the bayou trying to find Mama Odie--a nice old voodoo priestess to help reverse Dr. Facillier's spell. During their journey, Tiana and Prince Naveen make many new friends and teach each other things that neither would have experienced without meeting one another. The two amphibians eventually take a true liking to each other, even falling in love--without either willing to admit it at first.

The frogs and their new friends finally reach the city but find that it's too late for them to turn back into humans. Charlotte (Tiana's friend) kisses frog Naveen to break the spell but it doesn't work. Our two little green friends decide that life as frogs won't be as bad because of the love they share, and decide to marry. This love of theirs is so powerful and true that their first kiss as husband and wife breaks Dr. Facillier's spell. Tiana gets her prince and soon fulfills her dream of opening her restaurant. Great ending to a great movie.

I love it :)

Follow That Bird!!!

Okay, so I'm definitely not a bird and this definitely isn't Sesame Street lol but I think it's a catchy title!

I just wanted to take time to acknowledge my followers (all 7, my lucky number!! I'm the 8th so that doesn't really count lol) Thank you guys much for giving me an extra reason to keep my blog going. Now, I'm not just documenting my Disney experience for myself and any future wanderers who may happen to see; but I'm giving special people (Go CP's, wooo!!)something more to read lol

I enjoy all of your blogs, so I'm hoping you all are getting or will get something out of my blogging.

Have a Magical Day kiddos!!!

I'll be back tomorrow with some better reads (gotta go be a good student and do work!)

New Theme......

So.....unfortunately my plans of having a different Disney themed background every so often will not go through lol

Why you ask? Well, it's too much for one. I could barely find the one's I did have in the beginning and now the page that had my Little Mermaid background is messed up and that means my blog will just be blank with no background and my source of templates is gone :( Another part of the being too much aspect: having to change my text color on all my posts when I change templates. I'm procrastinating enough at school already, I won't even try to do all of that again!! lol This is the last time....at least until I find a simpler way of doing things

Oh well......on with the show.

I've decided on a new type of theme: a lovely, girly-type background that reminds me of one of my favorite Disney Classics of all time: Beauty and The Beast. It's by no coincidence that I do this today b/c I watched the movie this weekend (I was due for some quality Disney time and watched that and UP (congrats on the Oscar wins guys!!!) the beginning of the weekend.

This lovely pink, brown, and green schemed vintage rose background reminds me of Beauty and The Beast somehow. I guess because it has that vintagey romantic element to it. Also, remember the mystical rose from the story? Yeaaaah! lol I think that may have something to do with it too :)

Off to do homework and obliterate this darn procrastination. How do you other future CPs deal with this madness???

Purple Folder

IT"S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what that means right? It's time!! Time for what you ask? It's finally time for me to take the infamous Purple Folder picture and post it on facebook and where ever else my heart desires!!!!

My purple folder just arrived and I almost screamed again lol I just kept saying, "It's hereerre!!! It's heerrreee!!!". If my neighbors would have saw me or heard me they probably would've been like ummm it's only the mail! I wonder what the mail carriers think when they see those big ol folders from Disney. Probably that the family is planning a trip to Disney World or something. Don't act like some mail people aren't nosy like that lol

The Little Mermaid

Hello readers!

As promised, a little info on my current choice of background. (My reason for doing the CP will be here by the weekend if I can swing it.....I have studying I should be focusing on this weekend lol)

My current background (when it's working.....right now it seems to be MIA) is themed after the Disney Classic The Little Mermaid. Ever since I was a little princess, I have adored Ariel and her story. I was a LM nut back in the day. I've always been an all Disney fan but when it came to anything Mermaid related I had to have it. I had the LM bedding (I'm sure it's still at the house somewhere hiding if I didn't toss it) including curtains (still have and use those.....I stay within the color scheme when I can since my room is light-blue like a crystal-like ocean). I definitely had the Ariel and Prince Eric dolls (recently gave those away but they were not in pristine condition.....played with them to no end; I'm sure my nieces love em like I did! lol); I have various LM figurines/toys that are still in tip-top shape; I know I had an outfit with matching shoes b/c one of my birthday parties (may have been 3rd or 4th) was LM themed

The story of Disney's The Little Mermaid is timeless and fits the life-story of many a girl around the world (minus the mermaid, talking animals, sea witch and prince part haha). Many of us grow up under a tight ruling with strict parents, usually a strict father. I know of her pain so well lol While my problems didn't deal with loving a human prince and following the MerKing's rules, my dad did have his share of rules and levels of strictness. In so many ways he acted like Triton (still tries to most of the time!) but I was determined to have my way and have my independence. We princesses get reprimanded for the darnedest things don't we? And then when we get closer to our dream (Prince Eric and being human in Ariel's case) life or a sea witch comes to take it away. I'm glad she got her prince and everything she desired in the end as opposed to the real tragic ending or the real LM story. This story and movie will always be held close to my heart. I think this movie is what sparked my love affair with all things oceanic and Disney :)

Waiting.....

So it's been a couple of days since I've been accepted into the Disney World College Program. I am still super ecstatic about going but I have a few minor concerns.

Will I like my roomates/housemates? How will that part work out exactly? I mean....I've gone 5 years in college and all of my 22/23 years without having a roommate. The closest I had was my bff in highschool when we went on a ski trip; we had houses not hotel rooms. So that kind of counts right? lol Anywho, one of my good friends and my twin sister foreva lol is scheduled to interview on Friday. I wish I would have told her about going when I apllied instead of after b/c that would have guaranteed us to be roomies in the Fall. The rest of the housemates wouldn't be much of an issue then but now I have to wait until she hears back....AFTER her interview tomorrow. So that gives us roughly a week to anticipate her acceptance :)

Hopefully the arrival date that I chose (8/11) won't be full by then b/c in order for us to room together, we have to arrive the same day {Why Disney?? Why?????? lol} I should have chose the 23rd to be on the safe side but I didn't want to run the risk of not being able to choose the housing I want (either Chatham or Patterson; I am NOT under any circumstance staying at Vista Lay--it's all bad when a rap song and video is made about it; creative maybe....funny even....but all bad!!)

I hope that all goes well with Ms. Twin and we can go to Disney together

On another note, I'll be back later to post a little more info on why I am doing this program, this blog, and why my current background is what it is.

Have a Magical Day

Day 6

The wait is killing me!!! lol I am truly being impatient with all of this but I cannot help myself. I'm dying to konw whether or not I made it into this program. I've been eating, sleeping, dreaming all things Disney for quite some time now: in spurts and in overkill over the past (almost) 23 years.

While it's only been 6 days since my interview, I can't help but wonder when I'll get an answer. I've been contemplating doing this internship for a few years but never really settled on going because I didn't want to halt my graduation date any further overdue already thanks to changing majors, but that was my fault lol). I've been reading posts on various blogs and forums about the CP and some people receive their invitation emails as soon as 6-7 days and even as long as 6 weeks. I'm not sure how this will play out for me but hopefully everything works in my favor :)

I'm going to play around with this Polyvore thing I discovered from other bloggers and try to come up with my own outfits for fun and for future shopping (hopefully CP shopping!!)

With that said, I should have some other fun and interesting things to share besides the daunting wait for my purple email **villian cackle**

Waiting For The Purple Folder

My interview went extremely well in my opinion!!! I couldn't stop dancing around and smiling afterwards. I really think that I got into Housekeeping but I could be wrong. Staying out of the heat would be perfect for me b/c I don't know how my new skin will react to being in direct heat (yall know how the temps in FL can be). Besides, I would hate for all of my dermatologists' hard work to be reversed lol (that story is on my other blog....)

I was super excited when my interviewer called. I was nervous and anxious all day long. I think yesterday was the longest day in history for me (and my high school graduation ceremony was long as ever lol). I got scared at first when 9pm rolled around and my phone didn't ring. I read on one of the forums that your call can either be 5 minutes early or late if its not on time. So....when 9:05 came and passed I was close to wanting to cry (ok....so not really, but I was really worried!) 9:06 hit and I could have sung a lovely tune when my phone rang and I saw that Unknown ID on there.

My interviewer was really nice. She asked me to choose 2 top roles instead of 3. I thought everyone got offered 3 choices but I probably didn't have enough marked down for her to give me that option. I chose Housekeeping because I'm used to cleaning and I actually enjoy it at times. I also chose Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Hostess (#1) because being a Fairy Godmother in Training would be so fun and sounds so cool lol. I don't have major salon experience but I'm great at doing my own hair (that's what my other blog is about, my natural hair journey :) and I helped out in a hair shop for like a second. I failed to mention that last part but she did ask a little bit about that role and then she moved on to cleaning-related questions. If the rumors are true....if Disney really tries to give their CP candidates what they really want....then I may be getting an offer for Housekeeping. I told her when she asked for my 2 choices that I was also open to Merchandise and Custodial. I can't really tell if the cleaning questions were aimed at housekeeping or custodial b/c she mainly asked about cleaning up after others. Directly, that can be specifically for HK but indirectly that can apply to custodial.

Whatever the case may be, no matter what role I get offered.....I will accept my CP offer so that I can still have that CP experience. I hear it's really fun and something you will never forget, whether you enjoyed it or not.

Here's to Disney!

Interview Night

It's here!!! It's finally here!!! I have my DCP phone interview tonight!! I can't wait!! I've been waiting for this day since I called them and scheduled my appointment. Hopefully all will go extremely well and I will get that beautiful purple packet in the mail in a few weeks. Word on the cyber mill is that they started sending out emails before the packets, so who knows. I might get an email in a few days first.

Wish me luck!! Or shall I say Pixie Dust :)

Have a Magical Day, I know I will!!

Intro

Hello future CPs, current CPs, and CP alums,

This blog will chronicle my journey to becoming a Disney College Program participant. So far, I've researched...researched....researched....and applied. I've heard many amazing things (and a few not so amazing things) about this program and I am ready to experience it for myself. I went to the presentation on my campus yesterday. My second time going to one lol....go figure. I feel like I'm ready. My application was completed earlier and my phone interview is scheduled for next week! I'm excited and I want to blog about this but I'm soooo not in the mood for concentrated blogging right now. This post is more so to set things up and I will probably post tomorrow or over the weekend to fill in alot of what's missing from this.

I've been a Disney fan since birth basically. I'm a Disney Princess in my own right lol and I think that the DCP will be a great experience that I can truly benefit from no matter what I end up doing in life.
